One Intense Focus
Yay another Netflix anime to burn through in a couple of hours grand day. So let me see what can I find to like about this anime? Well there are some things to really like about the anime. I guess an easy target is the art work. There is also the concept of the anime and the fact that it is pretty good for the feels if you want those too. So this anime is not completely devoid of reasons to watch it.
Why not start with the easy target, the artwork. I know that when I tend to compliment this stuff it means that you probably should not really pay attention to anything else that is being said, but I really liked the character design in this anime. I thought it was interesting how the dolls all had to be really fancy and stand out and it lead to some interesting costume designs for such an old world anime. So if anything a bunch of attention and detail is put into this art of this anime. I guess that is because there is so little to say so they want to say it with pretty colors.
The idea of having an anime which the sole focus of the anime is to follow a character around and catalog that characters development seems like a crappy idea, at first glance. However, given the kind of character that Violet is the anime actually lends itself very well to that style. While the stories focused around teaching someone something. Violet always had interesting asides and comments to make because she has no real filter which can make the story take an odd twist or turn here and there. Plus it was kind of funny watching Violet pretend that she did not just kick a bunch of ass in front of a large group of people.
Then there is the high level of emotional stuff that you get to see in the anime. I guess if you are a person who feels deeply you will get a kick out of this anime as they go out of their way to make these scenes extra emotional so that people can really get into the feeling that each character has. They also do a good job at portraying the intensity of the feelings that Violet had which can be hard to do. So if anything that is just something that is nice to see in an anime.
LAst I want to say that I did enjoy the end of the anime very much. The way that the last couple of episodes are all tied together is pretty entertaining. Kind of a last send off to the old Violet as she works through the world as this doll. It is always interesting to see how the main character who is trying to run from her past will react when placed in certain situations but it was nice to see that she had developed enough to act differently in the last couple of episodes. So really it is a showcase of the differences in the old and new Violet.
Overall, the anime has a couple of moments and is an interesting take on the idea of an old solider trying to move on with her life. Normally an anime like this constantly has her getting into trouble and things happening to her because well she is the one who did al that stuff back in the day. Which is annoying the show is about hiding and getting back to normal life and suddenly normal life cannot happen. So again that was a nice departure as well as all the other stuff that I mentioned.
