I Have No Idea What is Going On
So yet again we have another modern person being transported to someplace and being required to survive. I guess this one is okay because the main character is not reincarnated. However, the story is still pretty much the same. Someone who has been magically transported to another time who has to survive. He has his gimmick which makes him an incredible badass who brings change and reform to an otherwise savage society. So on top of being very generic, there are two other significant flaws in this anime.
The first flaw is how little information there is about the situation. While I will say it is a good use of the intro, how Yuuto got to that place is shown as the intro sequence. Which means you are thrown into this world with no idea as to why this kid, who is average in every imaginable way, is suddenly the leader of the wolf tribe or clan or whatever. You just sort of show up and there you go let us jump right into the main story. So really you are lost straight from the get-go.
This causes some major issues because the people who wrote this have a tough time working in all the details of the world into the anime. True I do not need to know every single little detail about the anime, but I would like to know some. Often times it feels like you are just slapped with a bunch of information for the sake of the random bits of self-awareness that prompt the author to share information. So all the info on the harem is more or less learned through osmosis. Which is generally okay, until hidden characters start appearing; whether it is the blacksmith or the random loli servant this harem is vast and characters appear and disappear.
This plays into the second major issue, and the story is boring. While the cycle of " is this the end" or " I got you now" followed by a miraculous save is nothing new in.... well any action show from any society. However, it is overused in this anime; you need to build for more than two episodes before the sudden come from behind victory happens. Which gets even more annoying when the sudden new ability just sort of manifests with no rhyme or reason.
Anime characters leveling up is not an uncommon thing. However, typically there is some hint that a person is going out and leveling up. This anime is basically, war then harem nonsense in three episode bursts. You have a fight, the fight is won, pointless harem nonsense, and repeat. That is this whole show. There is no real reason to watch it at times. I mean yeah it is educational; however, there needs to be more about the show to see.
The worst part about this show is the whole pointless love story. Yuuto is having a long distance relationship with a girl in the future. I guess she claims to be doing research, but I highly doubt that. Since the only time you ever see her is for her to talk about how much she misses Yuuto and how sad she is when he doesn't call. It just gets old seeing him speak to her because she offers nothing of substance to the conversation. Even the idiot assassin harem member provides more useful insights that this girl is sitting at home waiting for Yuuto to call.
Then there is how this anime dies. I can honestly feel like someone killed this anime and made sure it will never reappear. I mean come on, this crap is getting old. There is no real resolution to the anime. They barely keep the hints of a potential future season going. There are no new allies, no new enemies, nothing. You end on the one deviation from the standard 3 episode cycle, and it is just like the end. I mean it is barely worth mentioning anything about this anime. I mean it would be nice if Yuuto fell prey to some of the privileges to his new position. Otherwise, this is just a boring anime.
So yeah, when you couple boring with leaving you in the dark this anime suffers a lot. The sad thing is a lot of effort and thought was put into this setting. However, I guess that is just something that happens in a lot of anime. The author spends so much time crafting the world that they forget actually to write the story. I am willing to give the author the benefit of the doubt and say that the author was on a deadline, but it is going to be hard to back that up. Which is sad when an anime has so much exciting potential.
