The NDK Cap
So I would like to take this chance to talk about the NDK cap that is being instituted. According to the various signs I read at the convention. There will be a cap on the amount of people allowed in at NDK. I am not going to be able to prove this, but I support the idea. There is only so much space in one place... after a while cramming 10,000 otakus into one place just gets sweaty and messy. Although I have to say I am a little pissed off about it.
The main reason being that now the convention cannot grow. By setting up a cap, NDK is limiting its growth for now. Granted NDK has grown a great deal in the past... god 14 or so years. It is still annoying. Especially since preorder prices are so very very low. How the hell are they going to make any money to move this convention to a bigger venue?
Oh wait that is right, they could not find a bigger venue. Generally that means that those who, technically, own the convention would have to take a pay cut. There are plenty of large venues out there. There are plenty of large hotels out there as well. I know NDK is not quite convention center sized, which is fine. However, please do not tell me that there is just not enough room. That is a giant pile of BS. A bigger hotel is a more expensive hotel. Seriously, do they really think they are going to have trouble filling a venue? They have trouble not creating a parking nightmare and an incredibly large fire hazard at their current venue. So what if there is a little extra space?
Like I said right now I support the cap, after all 7,500 people is probably not as crowded as the record attendance there was this year. It will be nice to not have to do a nice little dance around all the various people there. I am disappointed that NDK is not willing to grow because they "cannot afford it". However, what can be done? I hope that magically one of these venues they spoke of, in the poster, will become available and there will be no cap
