Fuck You Square
Why the hell is Square using peer-to-peer to do its updates? Is a dedicated update server REALLY that hard to make? Seriously I have been trying to play my Final Fantasy XIV beta all weekend. However, I cannot do that because Square decided they needed to be a bunch of lazy bastards, and not have a dedicated update server. This morning I woke up and found myself at 99.3% for my second update. Then it just sat there for 4 hours until I finally turned the damn thing off.
At the rate I am not going to be able to play the Beta. In all reality you could not get me to pay for Final Fantasy XIV. I mean Final Fantasy XI was pretty fucking terrible. So I am going to assume that Final fantasy XIV won't be much better. Plus there are a million free to play MMOs out there to play. Why would I waste time on one I have to pay for. Especially one that is likely going to be terrible. Especially if Square does not pony up the cash for a dedicated update server. Peer to peer is a terrible way to distribute updates.
After all we have to look at this logically. The only way a player can seed is if they are not playing. After all it takes a lot of bandwidth to play a lot of these MMOs. So the updater would have to be shut down while the player is playing. I guess Square is relying on people just letting the updater run, and hoping that they can get some good seed-time out of the person while they are waiting for the update to run. However, they fail to see the logic that FFXIV is coming out soon. Meaning that most people are going to play as soon as they can. If Square wants to lose my business for good they will end the beta before my updates finish. Gah... need to end on a good not. Here have some 2chan titty dancing
