Too Much to Do
Ah so it has been a little while since I last did anything for this site. Well that is not 100% true, as I did set up an htaccess file to handle routing people to this page. Which is nice now you just see the host name when you come to the index of the site. Nothing fancy, but I am learning more about Apache and will hopefully be able to do some cool things in the future, like getting rid of that annoying query string. Anyway, it is not as if I have not been watching anime.
Last week I was in New York for work, and in my off time I rediscovered Jigoku Shoujo. Still one of my favorite series of all time. And thanks to AZNV.tv I had no trouble being able to watch it. Although my Mac did give me some trouble when watching it. I am not sure if it was the Mac or the network but either way I did not get as far into the series as I would have liked. Plus I have also been watching Steel Angel Kurmi. Still as cute as ever. I also gave uhhh I think it is called Shugo Chara a chance, and I don't think I will follow that one. Yes it is kind of cute, but not really worth the time it would take me to watch all 70+ episodes. Plus there is just so much anime that is new and that I have to watch and it is over whelming at times, but I will get through it.
And now it is time for me to review something Anime related, Dragonball:Evolution. Yes yes I went and saw this movie, granted I did not pay a real movie price for it, but I still saw it. So what did I think of it, it was ok as a stand alone movie. But just as a stand alone movie. So let me save anyone who might want to see it because they think it will be awesome to see live action dragonball some trouble, don't go see it if you are thinking it is just another Dragonball movie. There are plenty of points to bash it for. I mean for starters Bulma is all wrong. She was not a machine gun wielding sociopath in the original series. She was just a sociopath. Next they make Yamcha just a theif, not a fighter and a thief. Then there is Goku... yeah enough said. Goku does not work out well as an angsty teenager. The only characters they got remotely right were Master Roshi and Chi Chi.
Master Roshi was done very well. He was just as obnoxious and perverted as he is in the original anime. Plus there was his generic fear of Bulma. At one point he catches Bulma and then drops her because of an earlier threat she made towards him. He was one of the more enjoyable characters. And then there was Chi Chi. I think she is the best example of a new character who is loyal to the original. She is rich, you know being the daughter of the Ox King and all. She is a fighter, and she wants to get with Goku. Aside from that there is not much else. But over all the movie was pretty well done. The fight scenes were very believable as well as very true to the series. The story was... well original, but I guess that was the point. I guess the only thing that could have made this series better would have been if Shenron actually spoke like he did in the series. That would have made the movie much better.
