My Gaming Addiction
On... hmmm when was it... I think it was Saturday. I picked up a strategy guide of Disgaea 3. And after staring at it for a couple of days I decided to supress the urge to play Rune Factory:Frontier to test out Disgaea 3, which I have had since it was released yet never opened. And now I am hooked on both of them. Sometimes I hate the fact that I have low standards for a good game. Especially in the case of Disgaea 3
So after playing this Disgaea 3 I can say without a doubt that game was made for the PS2. I just think they were having problems getting the game to run smoothly, as there is a lot to it, especially with the massive math calculations you have to suffer through. There plenty of signs though, the most being the graphics. I really wish NIS would have not been lazy bastards and used high res sprite files, but no they just pushed over the crappy PS2 res sprite files. Then there is the fact that the game uses a grid based tactics system, despite how obsolete it is. Then there is the very noticeable lack of Cut Scenes that come with sprite games. So why am I even playing this crappy port.
Well it is simple really, I enjoy the dialog for one. And for once there is decent voice acting, but that is besides the point. Since demons standards are different than ours it is hilarious to hear a character being called a delinquent bad ass, and then have her freak out about being late to class. Or how this individual character is encouraged to ditch class to improve her grades. Then there is the Item Maze feature. I like this one more for the Geo Blocks. As with every stage there is a way to get rid of all the geo blocks. However, it is hidden, and if you look at it long enough the answer becomes apparent. Finally there is just something alluring about being able to read level 99,999. As well as doing millions of hit points in damage and having an enemy survive.
Then there is Rune Factory:Frontier. This is a wonderful game as well, since it is Harvest Moon with dungeon crawling. And the best part is, it is up to you to decide how to play the game. You can do a lot of farming or dungeon crawling. Granted the best way to make money is to farm. Then there is the fact that, unlike the Harvest Moon games I have played you see your stamina. This makes life so much easier. I know exactly when I am too fucking exhausted to keep doing what I am doing. Granted that is a great and terrible thing.
It is a terrible thing because everything requires energy, farming, fighting, forging, crafting, EVERYTHING. So oftem times I find myself not getting into the dungeons to catch monster slaves to help me with the chores. And, as far as I can tell, there is not full RP recovery item. I can go to the bath, but that only opens at 15:00 in the game. Then there is the other thing I hate in that game... Mist. Gah she just angers me... I am not sure why. Maybe it is because she is such a fucking air head. And she is a bitchy slave driver too. One day she wanted me to mow her lawn for her, incidentally you gain access to a dungeon by doing so. Then she wants me to get her a present, as we are neighbors. You know despite the fact that I was the one who just moved in. Gah if I could kill her I would.... but I am sure she is a major part of the story.
Since both these games are addicting, to me anyway, I am stuck with making a choice. You know that choice of what to play until 0:00. The annoying choice that is always so very hard to make. Hmmm guess I will just have to flip a coin
