Netflix Marvel Post Defenders
Over the past couple of weeks, I have been catching up on, what is available, of the Defenders series on Netflix. After all, Marvel loves to tie its shows, movies, comics together so that we can have a continuous and complicated story. Since Daredevil season three is on the horizon. I figured it was time to buckle down and catch up. To be honest, after the Defenders show I was not too incredibly interested in what was next for this part of the Marvel universe. I technically did not even finish Jessica Jones season one, but I digress there is no reason to recount really. So I suffered through a bunch of the series, and I am hoping that Daredevil will at least be enjoyable.
So let us start off with Jessica Jones, the one that was not easy for me to get into. No, I am not a comics person, as a kid, those costed money, money that could go to video games. However, Jessica Jones season 2 was probably one of the few times I have wished that I never watched a show. " give it a chance" will be approached with skepticism from here on out. The show was pretty basic when someone was not talking about Jessica's past they were having sex. I understand the plot device and the reason for a couple of them, but this got out of hand quickly. It was like reverse hentai where they shove a story in, but instead, the sex is the stuff that is forced in. Then there is the fact that nothing happens until the end of the series. Yes, I know, there is a big twist in there, but even then that twist is... well pointless and annoying. Something that had no impact other than to explain why Jessica had powers so yeah, in the end, this particular show contributes nothing to the universe.
Next was Luke Cage, and this one was a bit strange at times. I guess that I should have watched season one again because I did not remember a lot of what happened in season one. Which plays havoc with trying to remember what happened in this series. The story did not make much sense. It seemed to have nothing to do with Luke. All the series did was set up the end of the season. Which went in an interesting direction, I guess that all the Defenders are supposed to be anti-heroes or something. I did enjoy watching Luke get thrown around a bit. Goes to show you that he is not used to having to deal with people who are experienced in fighting. Otherwise, it was about what you would expect from Luke Cage, which makes the season easy to watch.
Last, although technically first, Iron Fist. I am pretty sure that I started off with this one, but that does not matter. Again, too much time had passed for me, and I could not remember what inspired the plot of this one. That does not matter though, and this season does an outstanding job of setting up the next season. Even if it was a rocky road to get there. I can say that there is plenty of room for the writers to work within the story. There are a few things that annoy me, like how everyone gets an Iron Fist. Still, I guess that they had to justify the continued appearance of some characters. You know, as something other than eye candy. So I am kind of curious to see where they go with this because they could stop making Iron Fist seasons and the series would not have ended on any significant cliffhanger.
All in all, I am hoping that Daredevil does not fall down the hole of mediocrity that is the Netflix universe. After all, that would be a shame since Daredevil is by far the best of all the Netflix shows. Now that I think about things, maybe these series are getting canceled. That would not surprise me. All of the most recent ones have left with lots of potential for a new story, but no major cliffhangers. Which is nice when a show can reach that point where there is no need to worry about writing anymore; I guess that only time will tell for me. I am not sure what else I can do. I hope that Daredevil and whatever comes next will be able to interest me. It would be a shame for something with so much potential to just up and die.
