The Funny Thing About Time
So the funny thing about time is how quickly it can seem to pass. I heard that at E3 this year we are finally going to get the long awaited Kingdom Hearts 3. A game I have been waiting for since Kingdom Hearts 2. Ah yes, the franchise which cannot make direct sequels and stuff but can make a million little side stories that everyone needs to play. So in celebration for this I decided it was high time for a play through of all the games once again. You know one of those times when you are supposed to marathon through stuff and that was the fun part. Anyway, I realized that I am missing one game, Chain of Memories.
This of course was kind of distressing, but understandable. I mean the first game game out back when I was in high school that was quite a long time ago. During an age when I did not have access to as much money. Which means the fact that I even got the first game is nothing short of a miracle. Still I guess I can get a new copy. Well that is where Square has been doing a great job. There are plenty of remakes of the game out there for me to buy. Which is really funny to think about when I realize that pretty much every single game I have, in the original form, was bought new. Then I found the two collections that have been put out.
I was a bit surprised at how cheap the game was to be honest. I was not expecting the game to only be $20 that is plenty cheap to go ahead and make me not really worry about breaking my multiple version of the game rule. That is one rule I have been trying to stick by since I realized that I spent over $300 on Persona 3. Yeah I have pretty much every version of it and that made me sad, but happy. Anyway It is weird to see these games after so many years. Not to mention have all of them in one place. Especially given that at the time putting them on a DVD was considered a huge undertaking and was a sign of greatness given the depth. Anyway, there was another pleasant surprise for me.
That was the remastering was actually good. Now maybe this is because I waited until I got the PS4 version, but still that was a nice change for me. I have played several "Remastered" games and I have to say that the remaster of the first game has been very impressive. I was not expecting the game to look so nice or play so well. I mean yeah they did not fix a lot of stuff that I remember... from 16 years ago, but you know it was nice to see that the game could bring back that awe that I had for the game When it first came out. So that was a nice surprise.
Now comes the fun part waiting to see what the rest look like. To be honest I am not really looking forward to all of them. I do feel like Dream Drop Distance was one of the few that I do not really want to play again. Then again maybe it will be better on the PS4. Still I have no idea what to expect. The problem is deciding how I want to play the games. Not the order I am going in release order because I have not played so many of these games in so long. No I want to decide do I want to just blitz through the games or do I want to actually play them. I am still undecided.
IT is kind of amazing when I think about it, to be honest, I like how these games are still a ton of fun to play. It is really like I never left high school and am picking up the game for the first time. I cannot believe that I have not really mustered a second play through in over a decade, but still it is nice to know that I can and I know I will enjoy it. What is even funnier is how the game itself has more value to me to replay then plenty of other games I have lying around yet to be opened. Such is the life of a gamer we will always have our favorites. Thank god I never sell any of my games.
