Too Many Specials
So I have noticed a disturbing trend over this past season, as well as last season. There seem to be an increasing amount of the point five or SP episodes that come out during the season now. These are really annoying because that means that I have to wait an extra week to get to the rest of the story and.. well that kind of sucks sometimes. Really these guys seem to be getting worse and worse at determining when to put a recap in.
I mean first of all a recap does not need to appear until there is more than 10 episodes minimum. I have no idea why these studios feel the need to put them in after just six episodes. Rarely is there something that moves along so quickly that I need a reminder of what is going on halfway through. Often times anime seasons do not move all that quick. Though that has not always been the case this season, but even still there are too many series with extras and specials coming out.
I particularly hate the SP episodes. They are crap, why is it that no one can keep that crap to DVD extras? i mean seriously are they that confident that they are going to sell out that they are willing to waste the time and money on the production of some producer commentary or stuff like that? I just do not understand why they want to waste my time. I mean it just kills the momentum of the show.
You know things are getting serious and then BAM you get a pointless recap. When I am excited about another episode I tend to get overly upset at the fact that now I have to wait another week. Then as a result, I lose my excitement and might not pick it up for a couple of weeks. This is a pretty common occurrence for me. However, it is not like the producers are not unaware of the frustration.
Now they are pulling and old Evangelion movie trick where they have the recap for the first half and then put the last eight or so minutes as the continuation. Which is terrible because then I have to go back and figure out when the recap ends and when the next episode begins. Which can be difficult, it is almost like I am supposed to be foreced to watch the pointless recap. This is not simply knowning about how how long credits run and then clicking to the end for a possible extra. No I have to skip around and determine if I have seen something or not. Which is hard given that I do not remeber every single detail of every single episode. So I can run into stuff that appears to be new and then realize that I already watched it.
Then there is the cardinal sin of them all. The recap that ties into the regular story. These are murder on me because there is rarely any kind of balance. Sometimes you get a minute or so of recap then five minutes of episode. However, most o the time you get eight minutes of recap and 30 seconds of new episode. These guys have gotten good too. They know just how much they need to put in the recap episode to make the episode after the recap very confusing if you do not suffer through their glorified clip show. It is just one of those really frustrating things. Be confused or understand what is going on.
So yeah this is getting to be a new trend especially in series that seem to have a lot of figure and model markets. You want to get to know the person and people see all the cool or perverted stuff that is going to get released... I guess that is what is happening. I mean with how stingy the companies are with making new episodes and seasons that extend past 26 episodes you would think that extra production stuff like this would not be placed in the actual airing of the series. Then again I guess I am not your average fan. I am pretty sure there are more fans out there who really appreciate this annoying habit that they have and are more than willing to embrace the extra time and wait that extra week because they forgot or are too lazy to watch all the episodes up to this point. Well whatever, i guess I have to get used to having to skip anime for weeks on end.
