No More Thanksgiving
So I have been going around stores and stuff and I have noticed something, it seems Thanksgiving is no longer a holiday. I mean it is still on calendars, everyone knows when it is, we get work off for it and there are the post Thanksgiving riots. However, if you go into a store or listen to the radio or something like that, you would think it was giftmas. Did I write about this already? It feels like I already wrote about this... well whatever I just need to kill some time and well who cares.
I wonder when exactly it was decided that Thanksgiving was not a worthwhile holiday to promote? I mean.. huh.... the one holiday that is actually unique to the history of our country is just kind of swept aside because it is not as... what profitable? I mean... no one hangs up Thanksgiving decorations, there are no Thanksgiving songs, and the only thing you are supposed to do on Thanksgiving is eat, get drunk, and watch football. So... there is really no reason for stores to care right?
This year it was bad too, I mean every year giftmas seeps into the forefront to agitate parents, which I enjoy. However, this year it was pretty much literally November 1 time for you to get ready for giftmas. I mean when did that happen? Whatever happened to the good old days when we at least waited to Thanksgiving to steal the lives of some poor chumps to set up the giftmas decorations just in time for the Black Friday riots? I mean at least there is a clear break. I mean... why even bother reminding people?
I mean really the smart parents are going to buy all their giftmas stuff early on and hide it all year long. That is just a fact of life. All the lazy people, or people who do not care like me, are going to wait till the last minute.. and well it will really be the last minute. So why start off the giftmas sales now? I guess it is to spark a new kind of holiday rush. It is just sad that we skip the best holiday ever.
I mean really when you get down to it Thanksgiving is great because the primary goal of thanksgiving is to fall into a food coma. If you have a more festive family they will want to get drunk while you are at it. Yet this holiday, which is based on reality, is brushed aside because we do not buy presents for it. It is just sad really. I wonder how long it will be until companies see Thanksgiving in the same light as Halloween or that other holiday that glorifies the other word for lust? Oh well, it is not like I really partake, but still it is kind of sad that a part of our history is disappearing because presents are not technically involved.
