The Simulcats of Fall 2103
So then, we are only what over half way through the season. So I guess it is time to start the whole telling you what is worth tracking for the rest of the season. This year was a bit more difficult because I am imposing limits on myself for these reviews. I want to only do 3 or 4 animes for both to watch and not to watch. Which can be hard to do... after all, if I recommend a bad one it hurts my credibility. Well regardless, that is just how things are I guess. So lets get this over with shall we? I guess we should watch out for the rare occurrence in any of my reviews, a Sports anime.
While this is not the first cycling anime I have come across,Yowamushi Pedal is definitely the most interesting. I guess it is because you do not find as many sports animes where the main character is not already in love with the sport that he or she is playing. In this one Onoda is an otaku, a crazy otaku who rides is bike about 90 Km round trip to Akibahara so that he can save money. Not only that he rides on a cruiser or mommy bike. So doing this for... well I guess for him it has been since Elementary school has made him into an amazing athlete. I think the main reason why I like this one is because the author explains everything as if you were explaining it to a complete beginner. I guess explanations have to be simple, but talking to a character who understands something and who doesn't is still a pretty big challenge. So yeah this is a good one that you should keep watching if you have not already started it.
Next I will cite my wild card anime Samurai Flamenco. I will say that everything about this anime gave me doubts. I will even go as far to say that it took 3 episodes to convince me that this anime was worth watching. However, at the end of it all I find myself beating myself up for not just marathoning through this anime. I guess you could say that it is Kick Ass the TV show, but set in Japan. However, because it is set in Japan it just seems a bit funnier. I am not sure why to be honest. Maybe it is the fact that the guy was inspired by the Kamen Riders or the fact that his female counterpart is a sociopath. The show is pretty funny though, especially the way that the main star manages to gain fame. It is that realistic kind of crazy that makes it so enjoyable.
Then there is Ore no Nounai Sentakushi ga, Gakuen Lovecome o Zenryoku de Jama Shiteiru, a very long title anime. The main reason to watch this one is because of how our main star has a curse on him. He is given such a wonderful set of choices each time. I mean some of them are you know ok.. but it is the ones that are obnoxious that make the anime really worth watching. Not to mention the whole school dynamic with him being part of the Reject 5 and all the perks that come along with it. It is just one of those kinds of animes that everyone can enjoy because it is enough magical and enough reality to be amusing.
Speaking of long titles there is Yuusha ni Narenakatta Ore wa Shibushibu Shuushoku o Ketsui Shimashita what happens to heros when they cannot be heros anymore. Really the thing that appeals to me the most is how this world is clearly a magical world, but magic is used to create a modern world. That is the most interesting part of this anime. While that whole process is not very well explained, it is still something that adds an interesting twist to the anime. Plus despite its looks it also hits on a few some what heavy and philosophical topics. Stuff like why being a demon is bad, you have to watch the anime to learn why that is heavy. Overall though it is a great anime to watch, when are long title animes ever bad?
So yeah that will round out my must watch animes for this season. I figure most people can accommodate that many animes in their spare time. Of course you can always put these at the top of your list to watch when the season is over. Granted right now, if the season ended for these animes it would be a travesty and ruin them. Well regardless, these are the animes I think that everyone should watch if they know about the Simulcasts.
