Gaming in 2013
So yeah, I am back I have been playing too many video games recently. However, this is kind of an odd time in the industry. Well anyway E3 was a couple of.. I do not know weeks ago... days ago. Anyway the long awaited announcement of the "Next Generation" of video game consoles has been announced. To what do we owe the shock and awe too, well it is the Playstation four and the Xbox one. I guess I will start off with that little bit of amusing drama for that part of the industry
So you know I honestly think that Sony has been manipulating Microsoft all this time, because there have been a lot of rumors that they will not be allowing used games. Fun stuff right and then they straight out blindside everyone telling them that will will do the exact opposite of our friends over at Microsoft and allow used games and not require an online connection all day long. I think that was the real highlight, the one company who could actually be affected by the crappy sales of their system sticking it to the one company who continually does this crap for fun. Well either way, we have to say that Sony won that fight. Especially since pretty much right after E3 Microsoft announced an amendment to their policy. Which is funny to me, really it is, how often do you see a company waste money on a keynote and they take the time to say "Just kidding we are not that mean". I guess only Microsoft, well regardless I am still not interested in that system. So now we get to see exactly what will happen whenever those systems come out.
Next lets dive on over to this other new trend of Android based gaming devices. You know I think that it is kind of interesting that android seems to be the new platform for gaming devices. I mean really, you would have never guessed, but I guess when you are pretty much an open platform well you get to be manipulated and become whatever you want. Granted the Shield is one of the funnier stories, with their "last minute" QA testing bug they found. Ah those poor souls, I mean the shield sounds... well like the N-Gage. It seems like a really good idea right now. I think I will pick one up for the novelty of having one.
Then there is drama in the new idea of the open Console with the Ouya. Yeah the problem with that one was they are having problems shipping out the systems. Which is sad because I am not sure when I will get my system. That is something that I really want to get. This is one android device that at least sounds interesting because the android part is the base. Granted, it cannot run any of the numerous games that are available for android, but with a standard game engine who needs to do worry about compatibility. Plus all the people making games for it seem like a bunch of people my age who are obsessed with the 90s. So they system has a lot of fun sounding games. Hmm I wonder if Final Fantasy Three is actually free. Speaking of Final Fantasy, fourteen has been in the forefront of my time recently.
So after the massive flop of the first game FFXIV is making a comeback with a version 2. A much needed version two, I played the original and yes it sucked pretty bad. The game had nice graphics, but made no sense really. You would get lost doing things and really had no direction other than to mindlessly grind. I am all for grinding, but I always need a story or a path to follow. Just running around killing things bores the crap out of me. Lucky for me they fixed that and tried put force a story in there. Overall the game is shaping up to be better than the last one. You are given at least a little direction and you have plenty of stuff to do. Plus my favorite part is the fact that you can play any class you want to in the game. Not to mention it actually runs smoothly on high on my computer, which is a shock to me since version one forced me down to medium on my computer. So I am picking up that one.
I could prattle on about the games I am looking forward too.. truth is there are only really two at the moment and I am going to have to wait another what 2 years for those. Anyway, that is just how things are I guess. So lots has been happening in the gaming industry. Not so much that I have forgotten about my job on this site. The end season is coming. So expect me to review maybe 3 or 4 of the animes out there. Hopefully I will get more this year. Damn... I was one series short of having watched almost everything. Minus Photo Kano which I dropped on its head.. maybe I will drop Karnavel as well.. all those pretty boys hugging and touching... now I know how girls feel watching the animes that I like. Regardless, expect something as the video games die down a bit in my system.
