Anime Wasabit 2013
So today we are going to test my rambling about nothing skills. Well that or making stuff up skills.. I am never sure which skills I am working here. I have to say that because I spent a very large chunk of Wasabi this year throwing up. Not the good kind of throwing up either. The bad kind where you did not get drunk and black out. No the bad kind that involves food poisoning or something. Granted that was one hell of a coma fell into during the worst of it. So... now I am up to review wasabi and I did not really have a good look at the con.. other than the money I spent to get in and the nice hotel room.
SO this year was a throwback to the good old first wasabi I went too. I spent a very large chunk of my time playing games in the game rooms. I brought along Tanto Curoe with me so I could do some table top gaming. So there was playing of that. To be honest I was disappointed that the table top gaming room closed at 22:00... I mean that feels kind of early for a convention. Then again I guess you need people to staff it for a 24 hour room. That can be hard to do when you have a group of volunteers who are mostly doing the work for the free pass. Eventually they want to knock off and play. However, the video game room was great as always. I find it hilarious how that room grows every year. Sometimes it is full other times it is empty. I find it really funny that there is always a huge pile of personal information ready for the taking. Oh well as long as they watch it.
I will say that while the hotel rooms were nice, the hotel itself was not all that good for a convention. Well not an anime convention. First off there was this huge narrow corridor you would have to take to get anywhere in the hotel. I mean literally everywhere. The one thing that was great about the hotel last year is there was plenty of open space to roam around and loiter in. In this hotel you were lucky to find open space in the panel rooms. So that made the convention kind of suck. I mean whether it was dodging the retistration lines or just trying to get into a panel, things could have been better.
Another thing that bothered me was the hotel staff. They seemed a bit on edge. However, I blame all those twerps who were here for volleyball. I am pretty sure they were the ones causing all of the issues with the hotel staff. I mean.. what the hell it is a convention, yeah sorry it is during your little tournament. However, the hotel has been rented by us and we are going to have fun. Well I did not have fun, but everyone else seemed to have fun. So yeah there are going to be drunk people roaming around and playing and making noise. That is pretty normal for a convention where people between the ages of 15 and 40 to hang out at. So the hotel staff was running around telling us to be quiet in the later hours and.. uhh well whatever. I guess it was just the stupid volleyball people. Though it was hilarious whenever they had to share the elevator with those of us in costumes.
Still Wasabi is a good con though. However, they are going through the usual growing pains. I mean, they seem to want to keep things PG instead of PG-13. Really when you sit down and look at the difference it is really obvious how that makes things worse. However, that is the problem with a niche con, that is growing. You have to deal with the fact that more people are going to start attending. THere are going to be more potential lawsuits and stuff like that... hmm well I guess that is just how things are these days. Still I enjoy Wasabi and I want to come back next year. I would be honestly surprised if Wasabi for some reason did not come back next year. I mean with the two hour wait in line just to pick up my badge... you would think that there were either a lot of people there or a real big organization problem.
